M.C. KELLY WINS THREE TOP AWARDS IN A WEEK
Based in the heart of mid-Devon, butcher and fine foods supplier, M.C. Kelly is celebrating after a week of outstanding success. This long established Devon producer won the ‘Best of Meat & Poultry’ category in the 2014 Taste of the West Awards and was also awarded a Gold and a Silver in the highly anticipated Food & Drink Devon Awards.
Along with over 300 of the West Country’s finest food producers, M.C. Kelly attended the Taste of the West Awards on the 29th September at one of the world’s leading science centres, At-Bristol. Their venison loin reached top position as it took home the ‘Best of Meat & Poultry’ award. The team at M.C. Kelly pride themselves on supplying only top quality products and their venison does not fall short. Sourced from the Taw Valley through to the edge of Exmoor, and processed on-site by one of their eight highly trained butchers, the venison loin is melt in the mouth tender, described by the Taste of the West judges as: ‘it ticks all the boxes – well trimmed, well presented with just the right amount of game’.
Just one week later, at the Food & Drink Devon Awards which took place at the Exeter Golf and Country Club on Monday 6th October, M.C. Kelly won a Gold for their beautifully succulent grass fed, dry aged beef rump steak, which is sourced from local farms, hung for a minimum of 21days and trimmed by hand by expert butchers. In addition, M.C. Kelly’s Beef, Chorizo and Tomato Burger won a Silver accolade. By combining their carefully prepared fore quarter beef mince with chorizo from their ‘fine foods’ products, along with perfectly ripened tomatoes, this juicy gourmet burger with a hint of sweet smokey spice is hand pressed at Elston Farm.
Delighted by these recent wins, particularly as it’s the first time M.C. Kelly has entered the awards, managing director Andy Gray says: ‘Our business is growing at a fairly rapid rate, however we always hold true to our core values. We are committed to producing a top quality end product with everything we do.’ Andy continues: ‘We are thrilled that all our hard work has been rewarded with these awards, especially in the knowledge that we were up against fierce competition in the South West where standards are consistently high.’
