Search for the UK’s best young cooks, aspiring student chefs & keen home cooks                 

The Diamond Standard Awards, sponsored by Teflon™ non-stick coatings is a prestigious, well respected cookery competition that offers the chance for non-professional cooks to gain recognition for their cooking ability at home and for those attending school and catering college, the opportunity to showcase what they’ve learnt.

Head Judge and celebrity chef, Lesley Waters who has championed the competition since it began in 2012, will be leading the panel of esteemed chefs to select this year’s winners. “I shall be looking for the right attitude and passion for their subject. Originality and basic skills are essential along with determination and flare.”

The exciting cooking challenge has three categories open to all ages:

  1. Keen Young Cooks – open to 12-16 year olds – to bake their favourite dish
  1. Aspiring Student Chefs – open to 16-19 year olds – to cook their favourite game meat dish
  2. Keen Home Cooks – open to aged 17 years and over – to cook a signature classic dish

This year’s Keen Home Cook winner, Gareth Ford from Peterborough won with his game inspired dish, “It’s amazing to have had my cooking judged by professionals. I learnt a lot on the day itself and was able to take so much knowledge away from it. I would recommend the competition to anyone with a passion for cooking.”

The Keen Home Cook winner will receive an exclusive cookery weekend for 2 in Dorset including a hands-on cookery day at Lesley Waters Cookery School and overnight accommodation at the 5-star Summer Lodge Country House Hotel, Restaurant & Spa. The winning Aspiring Student Chef and Keen Young Cook will receive a life changing opportuning to take advantage of a sponsored three year Specialised Chefs Scholarship. In addition to these fantastic prizes, bundles of Teflon™ non-stick coated cookware from the sponsors are awarded as well as cash prizes of up to £500.

Entries are open and can be submitted online until the extended deadline of the 4th December 2017 via www.teflondsa.co.uk. Those selected by the judges go through to the National Final will be asked to cook their entry dish at the Waitrose Cookery School, London on 24th January 2018.

About the Teflon™ Diamond Standard Awards

Launched in 2012, the Diamond Standard Awards, sponsored by Teflon™ non-stick coatings is a prestigious, well respected initiative amongst industry leaders that recognises excellence, supporting students to achieve their goal of working as elite chefs in this dynamic industry and gives the chance for non-professional cooks to gain recognition for their cooking ability at home.

For students, this is potentially a life changing opportunity to receive a three-year Specialised Chefs Scholarship, training to become a fully qualified chef. The scholarship is divided into two categories; work based training with a chef member of the Royal Academy of Culinary Arts at one of the finest hotels or restaurants in the UK and full time block release tuition at Bournemouth & Poole College. The course is arranged by the Royal Academy of Culinary Arts and Teflon™ non-stick coatings, Chemours and managed by The Bournemouth & Poole College.

A team of esteemed judges chaired by Lesley Waters will choose their winners at the Waitrose Cookery School in London at a national cook-off on 24th January 2018.
